Tolling operator Transurban North America has appointed a new president.

Pierce Coffee, vice president of customer experience and operations, has been promoted to the role.

She replaces Jennifer Aument, who has taken a new role as chief executive of infrastructure consultancy Aecom's global transportation business.

A statement from Transurban says Coffee has "played an integral role in the expansion of the business in the US and Canada that has grown by four times and has served more than 9.5 million customers since 2012".

The company also acknowledged Aument's "transformational contributions to Transurban".

Aument's new appointment comes into effect on 5 April.

She was president and CEO of Transurban's North American business, overseeing development, financing, delivery and operations of toll road infrastructure in the US and Canada, including its $4 billion Express Lanes network in Virginia.

Transurban North America operates three roads in Greater Washington and is also working on the Fredericksburg Extension and the 495 Northern Extension.

It also operates one road in Montreal, Canada, and a number of roads in Australia, including CityLink in Melbourne.
