The challenges to the tolling and transport industries from climate change will be on a packed agenda at the 91st IBTTA Annual Meeting & Exhibition in Seattle, Washington, which begins today.

For more information, see ITS International's official publication Tolling Matters.

In addition to a specific session on Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience and Transportation Systems, there is also an 'open space' discussion on diversity.

This is a different meeting format in which the participants define the agenda and self-organise to discuss the issues most important to them.

The conference's keynote speech on Monday morning is from Jer Thorp, the first-ever innovator in residence at the Library of Congress, who creates graphics and artwork using data.

He will speak after the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Awards ceremony, with Cassaundra Rouse, executive director of Illinois Tollway, and Chris Tomlinson, MD of Deloitte Consulting - and after the opening remarks from IBTTA CEO Pat Jones, who will be joined by Andrew Fremier, executive director of Bay Area Toll Authority; Roger Millar, secretary of transportation at Washington State DoT (WSDoT); and Josef Fiala, chief financial officer of Austrian toll authority Asfinag.

The two principal organisers of the Annual Meeting & Exhibition - Edward Barry, director of WSDoT toll division, and Tawnya Freund, chief commercial officer of ViaPlus - will also be speaking.

The winners of the Toll Excellence Awards will also talk about their projects and there is a deep dive into a local project, with a look at how the Puget Sound Region's four million residents move around.
