IBTTA 2014 Toll Excellence Award Winners announced

The International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association (IBTTA) has announced its winners of the 2014 Toll Excellence Award competition that recognises excellence, innovation and achievement in the tolling industry. Winning agencies and projects include:

The 3804 International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association (IBTTA) has announced its winners of the 2014 Toll Excellence Award competition that recognises excellence, innovation and achievement in the tolling industry. Winning agencies and projects include:

  • Administration and finance: Central Nippon Expressway Company – Shin Tomei Expressway Project;
  • Customer service and marketing outreach: North Texas Tollway Authority - Toll enforcement remedies: Equity of Toll payment
  • Social responsibility: Oklahoma Turnpike Authority - Tornado disaster recovery and clean-up
  • Technology: Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), Dubai - Salik Toll system expansion: A model of tolling excellence
  • Toll operations, maintenance and engineering: Autostrade per I’Italia – Effectiveness and efficiency in winter operations project.

“This year’s submissions were particularly innovative,” said Patrick D. Jones, executive director and CEO of IBTTA. “There were many great examples of projects highlighting new ideas and emerging practices throughout the international tolling industry.”

    Officials in Texas and Oklahoma say their electronic toll systems could be interoperable in 2014. Chairman of the Team Texas Interoperability Committee Clayton Howe says the exact timing will be up to Oklahoma to decide but indications are it could be up and running by the end of the year.
