The US state of Virginia has radically changed which cars are eligible to use high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes.

Most of the 16,000 vehicles which carry clean special fuel number plates can no longer use HOV lanes without three or more occupants (HOV 3+).
The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles says:

Additionally, the 1747 Virginia Department of Transportation is to convert HOV lanes on Interstate 395 in northern Virginia to 8217 Express lanes in a move which will require all vehicles except motorcycles and buses to have a properly mounted E-ZPass or E-ZPass Flex. Vehicles bearing a clean special number plate can access the 8217 Express Lanes with a standard E-ZPass or can travel toll-free with an E-ZPass Flex if they meet the HOV 3+ requirement.

The US Department of Transportation (USDOT) is partnering with ITS America to host two free public workshops at ITS America 2016 San Jose in June. Uber wants to resume testing its self-driving cars on public roads nearly eight months after one of its autonomous vehicles (AV) killed a pedestrian in Arizona.
The ride-hailing company has released a voluntary safety report to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration which includes safety enhancements to help prevent crashes and fatalities.
Uber says its AVs would include two mission specialists – employees who have completed advanced training courses in self-driving vehicle operations. The
Truvelo is showcasing its Trusign vehicle-activated sign for speed compliance and traffic management and the Check Point System for spot/section speed measurement and journey time data-gathering activities, at Intertraffic.
Trusign can be deployed in and around industrial and residential areas to help promote compliance with posted speed limits.
German company 3D-Kennzeichen is claiming a world first for its 3D car number plate made of special plastics. The 3D characters are applied by newly-developed stick-and-stamp technology to provide durable and tamper-proof mounting. The company claims the plate provides superior properties because the flexible, elastic material cannot be dented easily, nor does the product corrode. 3D-Kennzeichen claims the new car plate overcomes all negative aspects of former plastics approaches.
