Star Systems International (SSI) is cooperating with local partners in the upgrade of tolling systems in the Dominican Republic.

RD Vial, which manages the toll system in the Caribbean country, recently announced it was implementing a digital transformation of its operation, replacing outdated equipment with new readers and transponders/tags from SSI.

“Using the Paso Rápido transponder and dedicated lanes, traffic flow on major highways is greatly enhanced," says Keither de la Cruz, technology advisor and innovation project manager at RD Vial. "This reduces travel time and improves traveller experience across the Dominican Republic.”

RD Vial is using SSI's Tarvos Pro, a high-speed, multi-protocol integrated reader in many toll stations.

Its integrated narrow beam antenna gives great lane coverage and minimises unwanted cross-lane reads, SSI says. Tarvos Pro also supports an additional second high-performance antenna, allowing for extra flexibility in read-zone coverage.

“Tarvos Pro is a best-in-class next-generation reader for vehicle ID and tolling systems, and we are dedicated to supporting RD Vial as they deploy their new digitally transformed system,” said Alicia Re, Latam sales manager at SSI.

RD Vial is also deploying high performance tags manufactured by SSI, which are OmniAir certified for interoperability in tolling systems.

Star Systems announces new tolling antenna
Star Systems International announced the availability of Avior narrow beam tolling antenna, designed for over-the-road tolling for all electronic tolling systems using passive tags. Avoir allows system designers to create an optimal read zone in either multi-lane free flow / open road or a plaza-base tolling lane. STAR Systems claims Avoir maximises read rates and isolates tag identification and helps avoid cross-lane and stray transponder reads while mitigating adjacent lane interference.
